Today's intern titles are:

Motorcycle Registration Specialist
Insurance Official
DMV Correspondent
Lunch-Deliverer
and Accountant.

Pretty accomplished day I'd say, it went something like this:
Work at 9am
DMV to surrender license plates by 930
Paperwork for vanity plates and re-registration
Insurance company to change policy and holders
Begin organizing billing paperwork
DMV to re-register vehicle, and be turned down for vanity plates (aka after-hours effort to be put in tonight online)
End of the month billing completed

after all that, I ended up swinging by the apartment to get my leftovers from dinner the other night for lunch today. The front door was unlocked, which was strange, and there I found Grandpa laying on the couch with the vacuum sprawled on the living room floor. I was more than concerned. And then I accidentally startled him and woke him up. But, to make up for it, I got him KFC for lunch.

From there, I had to go to the post office to drop off work, and was nearly in car accidents twice between there and home. Apparently right-turn-only lanes that end as soon as the turn didn't matter to this dbag, as he then, without signal, veered continued to drive straight (in the lane I was properly in) a second away from my car and came millimeters away from sideswiping me.

On the way home from the post office, I turned onto the highway from Chenango Bridge towards Port Dickinson. The entrance to the highway is a length of single-lane that abruptly merges into the continuing double-lanes, and it is common courtesy (and common sense) that if you are already on the highway, you move to the far left lane to avoid collision. Apparently the student driver's instructer didn't feel like telling them that as they never moved for me and nearly sent me into the wall along the shoulder.

I had choice words for all the above dbag drivers, to say the very least.

Interninggg

Computer screen and paperwork for 3 1/2 hours, then post office errands for another half hour. Yay internship, at least it's keeping me busy & I now know more about color correcting than I expected to learn.

Serious Intern Work

It's about time. Today I started the major photo editing section - 'Verify Crop & Correct.' It's not that it's terribly hard, but I certainly can't see colors properly. I need to crop and color correct the individual photos one by one by comparing their color and density to a photo in the program that is color corrected to what the picture needs to look like on the screen to print looking perfect. Needless to say, I am excellent at color correcting and having the picture on the screen be what prints when at school, but these images on the screen are horribly blue-magenta and need to be darkened far more than you'd expect. I'm used to making my pictures too dark and too magenta, but this is new - my pictures today printed yellow-green and fway too light, mostly because I color corrected them to look right on the screen and had issues matching the blue-magenta huge I had to aim for.

Only day 1, I'll get better, and the pictures weren't useless. The people who buy them can't tell the difference like a photo kid, they just aren't as crisp as I'd want them.

Data Entry

More data entry this past Wednesday and Thursday, nothing exciting to speak of yet. I'm set up to learn the other half of the work (the actual photo verify/crop/correct/print) this week, hopefully I won't screw it up too bad right away.

In other news, Miss Delaney is fixed!! Only needed a new muffler/tailpipe, thank goodness I didn't need an entire new exhaust system. She barely hums and runs like a dream now, I couldn't be happier.

In other other news, Kyle's apartment is nearly done. Today we're (hopefully) getting the bedroom carpet and laying it, moving out the ghetto working-tv-on-top-of-the-broken-tv situation to the curb, and painting the kitchen. All that's left after that is building a small wall in the bathroom and a shower out of the clawfoot tub.

In lastly other other news, Jake's coming! I've missed my British kiddo like mad. Too bad I have to wait over a month to see him, but it's worth it. He'll be crashing at the apartment with GracieLove and Willhem. July can't come soon enough.. but at the same time, I'm loving this summer laziness for now.

Sorry I haven't posted pictures at all; I'll upload pre-renovation apartment pictures in a few.

Welcome to Cycle Shots, LLC

Sunday I coded envelopes for 9 hours. So much fun. I love writing numbers all day, while dealing with bitchy women who enjoy talking about the photographers as if we weren't there. Small children screaming, parents who don't know how to control their 6 year olds, and coaches who don't know who's on their own team. I can't imagine a more fun way to spend my weekend. Take the annoying with the sweet I suppose.

Today instead, I spent 8-noon staring at a computer screen doing data entry. I type up the numbers that I, or someone else, coded on the envelopes, then use a number code to determine what the customers ordered, and then add the Trading Card information as necessary. I use the DRUMS program, which does bulk data entry far easier and faster than any program used before; it combines the data entry with the TC info in one program, as well as holds all changes made and stores all of the information within the program, rather than in individual files in the hard drive. It would be "fun" if it wasn't so tedious.

Technically I don't mind data entry, I find it relatively calming. I'm just looking forward to learning the actual job - I am taking in a lot of "how to deal with dbags and still look professional when running your own business" though, which is obviously important, as there are a lot of dbags with money out there. I look forward to taking their money.

"Apply Today" is a joke.

I called Sears Tuesday about returning to work at the Portrait Studio, and was told a note was left and high hopes and lots of "I've missed you, hurry back"-s. I said I'd try my boss's cellphone Thursday when I had a more comprehensive list of dates I need off for the summer.

Yesterday, I had a lovely visit to Caz, as I just can't seem to stay away and it's always so gorgeous in the summer.

Today, I finished job #1 at 12, and called Julie about working Sears at 12:30. I was told that had I been rehired a week earlier, I would have been laid off (a second time) as of yesterday afternoon. Due to economic budget cuts (and the fact that professional family photography is a luxury right now), she had to cut her staff of 8 (9 with me) to 4. Her hours got grossly cut too, so she can only single-staff the place on weekdays, and only double on Saturdays. Even if I had gotten rehired 9 people is way too many to work the slow summer, so I wouldn't have gotten hours anyway.

I have now come into some unexpected free time, so I'm hoping to book some more models since my schedule has been freed up much more than anticipated. I don't plan on looking for a different summer job now, seeing as how no one is hiring for 3 months, and I don't want a new job post-graduation, so I can't even promise an employer I'd be back on breaks / after school. Julie said when the holidays roll in and she has to hire seasonal, she's not going to hire new people, and instead call up all of us recently laid off. Saves her training time, and we're all pretty good at what we do, and love her so it's worth going back. If I hated my co-workers, there's no way in hell I'd enjoy my job, even one I like as much as photography.

Start the internship officially Sunday.. did I mention that?
In other news, Happy Hour margaritas taste better when they're half off. It would be more convenient if we didn't have to sit at the bar to get them that way.
Love these girls

Roomie*loves
Gracie's just the cutest thing ever.

Obligatory Intro Post. These are tacky.

I've been a blogger since 2001. I'm not sure if I'm proud of that, embarrassed at my need to display my life for the voyeurs online for so long, or if I've convinced myself yet that I am, in fact, that vain that people actually want to listen to me talk about myself.

Either way, I needed a fresh start, and a good place to send Anita when I post about my internship. So ta'da, eff it, let's get a taco is here.

I am interning for my dad at Cycle Shots, LLC, in Binghamton, NY. It's not as glamorous sounding as some of those NYC internships (which I narrowly missed achieving) but it is where I need to be at this point in my life. I am near friends and family, learning the ropes on how to start and run my own business. All I want by graduating in, oh wow, a year from now, is to be able to walk out of Caz and straight to the Town Hall and establish my own sole proprietorship (or LLC if I happen to come into about $500 is expendable cash). This internship is a big first step.

This blog is mainly an internship update tool, and a way of listing out my summer calendar whenever necessary, as I need at least 3 schedules at any given time to keep myself organized. I have two paper ones currently, so this makes that necessary third.

In other news, this summer holds hopes of my boyfriend moving into his apartment (and therefore "our" apartment), working a regular part time schedule at Sears Portraits in the mall, working part time for Joe (you'll meet him later), and shooting as many potential pin-ups for Capstone as possible; I don't want Capstone to come as a shock out of nowhere after 3 months of not worrying about it.

I'll be updating no less than once a week, so keep an eye out should anything interesting actually happen in small-town Bing (and for those of you who don't know my father, this internship is not going to be a walk in the park *or* boring, so I'd stick around if I were you). I promise a solid dose of sass, sarcasm, and snark with every professional update.

P.S. Internship officially starts this Sunday (the16th)
